작은 숨으로부터 움트는 것들

나는 움직임의 흐름을 미리 계획하지 않고, 자동기술적으로 감각에 이끌려 그림을 그린다. 몸 속의 움직임은 알 수 없는 감각을 따라가고, 이는 곧 무의식적인 형태들을 뱉어내게 한다. 먹을 사용하여 숨을 고르며 수행하듯 새겨넣는 형상들. 미동과 옅은 숨결, 유기체와 세포의 움직임, 차마 말로는 설명하기 어려운 이 미시적인 감각들을 추상 언어로 풀어내다보면 형상들은 점차 하나의 생명력을 지닌 존재로 움트기 시작한다. 생동하는 묵흔으로부터 출발한 이 존재들은 내가 만들어가는 감각의 틈새에서 부유하고 있다.

아주 작은 단위의 움직임, 귀를 기울여야만 들리는 소리, 집중해야 느낄 수 있는 미묘한 떨림은 나를 빨아들이듯 작은 세상으로 이끈다. 놀랄 때 심장 박동이 빨라지는 것, 달리면 숨이 차오르는 것, 잠에 들었다 깨어나는 찰나, 천천히 들이쉬는 호흡. 그 모든 움직임은 내가 살아있다는 것을 느끼게 하며, 삶을 감각하는 방식이기도 하다. 그리고 그 생명의 순환 과정은 먹의 성질과도 닮아있다. 몸짓은 물을 옮기고, 그 속의 먹이 질기고도 유약한 종이의 섬유 층위를 파고들며 흔적을 남긴다. 몸, 물, 그리고 먹의 흐름. 나는 이 감각과 반응을 통해, 생명이 깃들어있는 순간을 기록하고자 한다.

Sprouting from a Subtle Breath

I do not plan the flow of movement in advance; instead, I draw in an automatist manner, guided by sensation. The motion within my body follows an unknown sense, and this leads to the emergence of unconscious forms. With ink, I breathe slowly, as if in meditation, engraving shapes through a quiet act of repetition. As I unfold subtle movements, faint breaths, the motions of organisms and cells—sensations too delicate to put into words—into abstract language, the forms gradually begin to sprout, becoming presences with a life of their own. Born from these living traces of ink, they now drift within the gaps of perception that I continue to cultivate.

Minute movements, sounds that can only be heard when listening closely, subtle vibrations that require full attention—they draw me inward, into a small world that quietly envelops me. The quickening of the heartbeat in surprise, the breathlessness after running, the brief moment between sleep and waking, the slow and deliberate inhale—each of these movements reminds me that I am alive. They are how I sense and experience life. And this cycle of life resembles the nature of ink itself. The gesture moves the water, and the ink within it penetrates the layers of fragile yet resilient paper fibers, leaving behind its trace. The movement of the body, the flow of water, and the path of the ink—through these sensations and responses, I attempt to record the moments in which life quietly takes root.
